Rules of the Digital Competition

The general rules of the digital competition are the same as for the traditional slide and print competitions. The rules can be viewed at our web site at www.country-images-newmarket.com as "Competition Guidelines". The additional rules are outlined here.

Up to three (3) digital images from each maker are allowed in each competition. The same Topics as in the other Categories will be used.

It does not matter how you get the digital image. It may be generated by scanning of a film, slide or print image or it may come from a digital camera. The images will be projected via digital projector for judging.

Naming of the Image Files
Please use the following naming convention for you submitted images: Maker Last Name SPACE Maker first Name-Title.jpg . For example image by John Doe titled Rock Formation should be submitted as: Doe John-Rock Formation.jpg . The associated Submission Form should then be named: Doe John-Submission Form.doc

Submissions
The digital images can be either submitted on a CD or emailed to the competition chair at

cimages@rogers.com02

Before submission, the users are asked to prepare each image as they want it to be viewed. No manipulation or adjustment will be carried out by the competition chair or anyone else after the images are received.

File Size
The users are asked to compress the images to the following size and format.
In Photoshop and Photoshop Elements use the following process. (We can't help you with other imaging software but a similar formatting and compression should be used there.)
In Photoshop use the "Image Size" from the "Image" menu and use the resolution of 72 pixels/inch (enter this field first, actually this value does not matter) and in the pixel dimension enter 1024 in the larger dimension (the other dimension will be calculated automatically from the "Constrain Dimension" option. The option for verticals is shown below, for horizontals enter 1024 pixels into the "Width" field). The following is a screen print of a typical Image Size window for a vertical image:

To save the image, use "Save as" in "File" menu and chose jpeg option as shown here

Move the quality slider (i.e. small file-large file slider) to make the image less than 200 k in size, if possible. On rare occasion, for images with a lots of details, the size can be slightly larger that 200k.

Submission Forms
Submission forms can be found on our web site. Please download one and fill the appropriate fields. It is sufficient to submit only the back page of the Form. If submitting via email, add the Submission Form file to the submission email. For CD submissions, add to the CD, however, a paper copy of the back page of the form will be appreciated.

If you are submitting a combination of slides and digital images, please prepare a separate Submission Form for slides and digital images.

The submission deadlines are the same as for any other competition submissions.
Good luck..
